Privacy policy

SHOKEI Inc. (“we”) handles your information on SHOKEI STORE (the website and the iOS/Android apps, the “Store”) as follows.

Information we collect and why

• Name, address, phone number, email address and order details: to fulfil orders, respond to enquiries and repairs, and keep records required by law
• Account details (email address, passkey public key, password verification data): for login and identity verification
• Favourites, follows and restock alerts: so you see the same content on other devices (stored on our server only while logged in; stored only on your device when logged out)
• Year of birth and gender: to understand preferences by age group and gender and improve our selection and guidance. Never used to identify individuals
• Bag and recently viewed works: stored only on your device

Payment information

• Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments are made on the payment page of our provider Square. Payment details such as card numbers are handled by Square; we neither receive nor store them
• For bank transfers, we keep only the payer name and the payment record
• We hold the payment and pay the maker after you confirm receipt (automatically 21 days after shipping)

Ways to sign in

• You can log in with a 6-digit code sent by email, an email link (valid 15 minutes, single use), email and password, or a passkey
• Passkey biometrics such as fingerprint or face are verified only on your device. They are never stored on or sent to our servers
• Passwords are stored only in hashed form and never appear in logs or on screen
• Login attempts are limited to prevent unauthorised access

Browsing records (activity data)

• What we record: views of work and maker pages, searches and filters, favourites, follows, additions to the bag, completed orders, and the referring page
• We record only if you choose “Agree” on the banner. If you choose “No”, nothing is recorded. You can withdraw consent at any time
• We do not store IP addresses. Devices are distinguished by a random string, never linked to your name, address or payment details
• Records are kept for 400 days and then deleted
• When you close your account, the link between the records and you is removed
• The purpose is to improve the Store’s usability. The data is not used for advertising or sold to third parties

QR codes at festival venues

If you open the Store from a QR code displayed at a Japanese culture festival or other venue, we record which QR code you came from to measure the event’s effect. This record does not identify individuals.

Sharing with third parties

• Order details and the delivery address are shared with the relevant maker for production and shipping
• Information needed for payment (amount, order number, email address) is sent to Square
• Apart from the above and where required by law, we do not share data with third parties

Handling of reports

When we receive a report about a listing, we use the report and the contact details (optional) only to review and respond to it.

Account deletion and data removal

• You can close your account from My Page. We delete your name, contact details, passkeys, password, favourites and similar data
• Order records are kept only to the extent required by law (such as bookkeeping), in anonymised form with name and contact details removed
• If you cannot log in, or wish to access or correct your data, contact us via the enquiry form

About the app

The iOS and Android apps use the same account and handle information under the same policy as the website.

Newsletters

Newsletters are sent only to those who have consented, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
